Using large silk, paper and nylon umbrellas as event decor is not a new idea. However, it seems to be showing up on blogs, pinterest and magazines as of late. I think the resurgence is strong because it is a strong visual element for low-cost. The repetition of the shape and color makes it appealing and the fact that a designer can cover an entire ceiling makes it a fantastic way to transform a space.
This technique can be used indoors as well as out. Depending on the fabric and texture, lighting effects can really enhance the look and give a moody glow to the installation.
